When her mother moves in with her boyfriend, 16-year-old Delia is forced to relocate to a new town and live with her grandmother. Struggling to fit into her new school, Delia -- a.k.a. Deal -- pursues the interest of a popular boy, even though he is dating another girl. When she investigates rumors of a ghost haunting the school, it causes Deal to face her personal and family problems.

Mild on the supernatural, Singer's story focuses more on Deal's romantic entanglements and emotional growth. The result is sort of an uncomfortable marriage of Judy Blume and Goosebumps. Young adults will find this a light and enjoyable read.
