I'm not going to bother reviewing The Sorcerer's Apprentice (**), a very mildly
amusing by-the-numbers fantasy with some good actors hitting their marks and
remembering their lines. But I did want to note that, given that the characters in
the film notice it when a line of dialogue is borrowed from Star Wars, they
should logically notice it when an entire scene is borrowed
from The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment of Fantasia.
The best film of the year so far is Toy Story 3.
Not much on tv in August. Go to the beach. Watch out for oil.
SF on TV in August 2010
Fringe, Supernatural, Smallville, Stargate Universe
and Sanctuary return in September. The second season of V will begin in
November. In December, the new Doctor Who Christmas Special airs. FlashForward
may get a new lease on life on the Starz network. Caprica and Torchwood will return in 2011.
