There was a brief time, a few years ago, when there was intelligent sf on tv. But
Firefly and Defying Gravity were never given a chance
to find an audience, yanked from the schedule before all the episodes had
aired. Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, about high tech sex slaves, was
aired out of order, to play down the sex slave angle. Terminator: The
Sarah Connor Chronicles started big but couldn't hold an audience. I
attribute that to the robot, played by Summer Glau, acting like a real robot,
instead of like Data or C3PO. I thought it was a whole lot better than Terminator Salvation.
Since then, not much, and Falling Skies is probably the best of the
lot. The season one cliffhanger left me looking for more. The other big Spielberg-produced
tv series, Terra Nova, is gone for good, as are Sanctuary and Alcatraz.
Also in June: the season finale of Game of Thrones, the series finale of
Eureka, and the season five premiere of True Blood. The new ten
episode Canadian series about a future cop in the present day, Continuum,
has attracted less than a million viewers.

Touch has been renewed for a second season. Warehouse 13 and
Alphas will be back in July.
