Les Edwards is not as well-known in North America as he is in the UK. However, that is slowly changing.

Michael Whelan

Michael Whelan is likely the most famous artist ever to come out of the science fiction and fantasy field. He has won a host of Hugo awards and a couple of World Fantasy Awards along with a host of others. He, along with his wife, operates Glass Onion Graphics, a mail order business which markets his artwork.

James Gurney

A few years ago, James Gurney wrote and illustrated a book of dinosaurs who ruled their own world. Dinotopia went on to become one of the hottest books of the year. It spawned a whole Dinotopia empire of novel tie-ins, childrens books and there is even a rumour or two about an animated movie.

Richard M. Powers

If you read Ballantine science fiction back in the 1960's, you should remember the art of Richard Powers which graced the covers of many volumes. His abstract style and striking use of vivid colours were unmatched in the field at that time.

Janny Wurts

OK, pop quiz! If you were asked to describe the work of Janny Wurts, what would you say? It is likely that you would get one of two answers. One would be that she is an author while the rest would say she is an artist. Both are correct for she has done a number of fantasy novels over the years often with her art decorating the covers.

Boilerplate - Paul Guinan

To quote from the site, "Boilerplate was a mechanical man developed by Professor Archibald Campion during the 1880s and unveiled at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition.
Boilerplate was originally designed as a prototype soldier, for use in resolving the conflicts of nations. Although it was the only such prototype, Boilerplate was eventually able to exercise its proposed function by participating in several combat actions."
