Death eaters / Pain Eaters cult? - new crime fighting short

I am looking for a short story I read - there was series of them published
in a small magazine -

It is about a man and his family and how some new technolgoy
to fight crime and this cult of death/blood in the world.

The technology recreates every detail of a crime so that there
is no question that the person is quilty.

I used to know what the cult was called - but since Harry Potter I keep
calling it Death Eaters - it could be close to that - maybe Pain something.

Any ideas?

It is probably not Death/Pain Eaters it is most
likely something like Pain Lusters / Blood Lusters
- a movement that is very gruesome and growing
in parts of south america.

The invention - when hooked up to the defendant - replays
everything that happened from the defendants point of
view - and is exact.

There were probably 4 stories in the series - it is set in
an alternative future
