Trees attack city

Hi,

I also forgot about a certain SF book.
I forgot about lot's of SF-books ,
but this one is making me crazy.

It is about a gunman or policeman who is hired to save a
city or planet thas is at war with the trees and/or animals around it.
I believe he is hired because his reactions are very fast
What novel could it be?

You might be right. The descriptions on the internet fit to what I have in my mind.
I didn't know it was one of a trilogy, so I have something extra to read now.
I'll get the book and see if it fit's my memory.
