Out of Body Experiences with Bel Canto singing

Help , I read this great book years and years ago ( at least 25), The story involved a time where a method had been developed to have out of body experiences through a specific way of singing. It was very difficult to do but those who did it experienced amazing pleasure and revelation. Some in fact choose to never come back to their bodies and some just sort of got lost. I am certain that Bel Canto singing was involved in some way. Does anyone have a clue?

It sounds a little bit of Songmaster by Orson Scott Card. Great book, lots of singing, although I don't remember any out of body experiences.
