I think I'm addicted to Codeine why? I'll tell you.

Postby ChrisC » Sun Aug 03, 2008 4:25 am

I had a nasty cough about a week and a half ago. Got some CorBar Linctus. Which contains 10mg Codeine for every 5ml and 20mg of Ephedrine for every 5ml. One bottle is 200ml. Since the cough I'm on two bottles a day.

Now we come to why! As most you know or those of you who have been following my post's I'm coming home to the UK on the 9th of August. Everytime I take the codeine the pain and sadness of leaving my wife and daughter behind is easier to manage.

Tomorrow is my last working day, I shall need some to get through that. Then I'm off work till the flight. Seeing as it's been such a short time will the withdrawals be harsh. Is there anything to do to help?

The last time I was addicted to codeine I found wine really helpful, you know one of those 5 litre boxes of sweet red wine.

My question is this. I aim to quit after I have done my days work. How bad can I expect things to feel.

Oh and please don't give me a lecture about how I shouldn't have got addicted. I'm going through some serious life changes and when you find yourself something that eases the pain, naturally you continue to use it.

And yes I know I'm prolonging the inevitable comedown/depression. Well at least when I get to the UK they don't freely hand out codeine over the counter. So the addiction will stop. Also I'm going back to sort my head out so...whatever blah blah blah

If you do feel the need to tell me off, flame me whatever. Please do it nicely I'm a sensitive individual at the moment. Take that in to consideration.

ChrisC,

You are turning to a science fiction group for help with problems that obvious require a professional. If someone on the forum has had the experience of being addicted to codine, maybe they can give you some advice. I've never had that addiction, so I can't help.

If it helps you talk about it here, you are welcome to. I think I can say we all wish you well. But don't mistake a chat group for therepy.

Good luck.

Yeah I also post about Science Fiction. I'm heavily into SF. So I do post input about that here. I thought the Chat forum was a place that you could post anything you like.

I Guess I'll stop posting about such things. If that's what you want. I just throw words up in to the air, sometimes I get a response, sometimes not. It all depends! Even on an SF forum.

That's not what I said. In fact, I said explicitly that you should post anything you want under chat. What I said was that you shouldn't get your hopes too high.

Here, let me put on my Lone Psychiatrist costume, and tell you what I think. I think you have some very strong defensive mechanisms in place so that you translate what people actually say into what you want to hear. For example, you translate "I don't have the expertise to help with codeine addiction" into "I don't want you to talk about your codeine addiction". I also don't have the expertise to break down defensive habits -- that takes a professional and takes years.

Sound effect: Galoop, galoop, galoop

Maw: "Who was that masked man, Paw?"

Paw: "I don't know, Maw, but I'm cured, I'm cured!"

Maw: "Are you really cured, Paw?"

Paw: "Sure I am, just feel my nose."

OK, OK, I'm a little off the rails at the moment. You know schizophrenic people do take what people say as threatening sometimes. But, yeah I get what your saying.
