When it comes to comic books, I'm a hard sell. There are too many comics. Most of them are pretty good. I could waste a lot of time on them.
Before Watchmen is definitely worth your time. Begin with Minutemen #1. It's not the best, but it's very good. Then follow the Crimson Corsair serial in the back to find out which comic to read next.
I started reading them because I like the writing of J. Michael Straczinski, creator of Babylon 5. But all that I've read so far, both those by Straczinski and those by other writers, have been at least excellent, and a few gave me goosebumps. Those by Len Wein are his best work, and he's written a whole lot of comics.
