Forum permissions

Postby admin » Tue Mar 21, 2006 6:50 am

As a test we have changed the permissions on all forums except one. From this point all forums require you to be registered in order to use them. We apologise for the inconvenience and ensure you that we have no intentions of onselling details or anything like that. It is purely to stop the excessive spam that is upsetting so many of our patrons.

The exception is the 'Can you tell me the name of this story' forum. We will leave this open to posting by guests and will manually delete spam. We have left this forum as it is so as not to discourage people who simply visit to get an answer.

Thankyou for your support :)

Not Working

Postby k1w1taxi » Sun May 21, 2006 4:27 am

Having just read through almost all the categories for the first time in a week I think I would have to say this measure hasn't worked , or needs more tweaking as there are spam messages, including porn, in most of the categories.

spam

Postby admin » Sun May 21, 2006 7:53 am

I'm surprised that spam was found in "most of the sites". I delete spam every day, and usually only find it in the open site, "What's the name of this story", though there are occasional exceptions.

you are still getting a lot of spam.. stupid spam bots

heres one idea which worked to stop spam on my guestbook

since you wish to keep the forum public, just add a validation word on the reply screens. the idea was suggested to me here:
http://www.orchardhosting.com/forum/ind ... wtopic=467

as an added precaution i put the validation word as an image. i was getting up to 14 spam entries a day, i now have none.

That takes to long to do everypost. But maybe activate the registration could work.
