Hello to all --- I am one of the ancients & I am going to drive you crazy
trying to remember for me all the Authors I have forgotten, but not their wonderful stories. I have the selective memory disorder of the horse & buggy generation
Marching to the beat of a different kettle of fish
My Dad once told me that horse and buggy dating had one advantage over autos - and he was around for the transition. He said that the horse would stay on the road even without any hands on the reins....
Hi, My name is Steve and I'm a Science Fiction addict. I started reading about space and the resurrection of ancienct creatures before Sputnick started it's orbitting of this planet. I belong to something like a dozen forums but I'm always looking for a few different view on this bizzare world of aliens and temporal anomolies.
As another who began reading science fiction BS (Before Sputnik) welcome to the forum.
I've been going through my sf collection deciding which authors to keep (Theodore Sturgeon) and which authors to part with (L. Ron Hubbard) to free up shelf space for, for example, huge books by Neal Stephenson. Who are your favorites from the Golden Age?
I'm partial to Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, but I've read too many to narrow it to a favorite or favorites. I try never to get rid of anything. I may regret it latter. You can always get more bookcases.
You can always get more bookcases, but where do you put them? My ex got the house, and I'm living in a small apartment with two storage sheds full of stuff.
Sometimes it requires much patience. After I remarried, I eventually ended up with a larger house and after all the kids grew up I had plenty of room. It was worth it.

...and the moral of the story: treat your woman nice so that you don't end up living in a shack with nothing but your books to keep you company
I live in Denmark, 28, married, two children (boys, 3 months + 3 years), teacher (mainly biology + history).
Interests: Fly fishing, growing chili, politics (used to be a (full time!) left wing activist - now I'm just a left wing ).
Finishes only 1/4 of novels I start with - enjoys non-fiction the most, so novels has to be really good to keep my attention.
I cant speak of the Soviet Union because there are no soviets and it is not a union but an empire. The 4 letters USSR represent 4 lies: it is not a union; it is not a soviet; it is not socialist; there are no republics. http://politikhuset.blogspot.com
I feel almost guilty if I don't finish a book I start. In my whole life, I can only think of one or two novels I've started but haven't finished. One was The Last Day, by Hans Helmut Kurst (spelling?) where I thought I could see the ending coming a mile away, and didn't like it. I'm sure there must be another, but I can't think what.
