Two stories- Little men and a Hair Dryer

Hi-these two elusive short stories have been driving me crazy, both in different anthologies back in the 80s.

1. Guys exploring a cave discover a race of small evil manlike creatures that are super-dense and can walk through walls.

2. A man's wife acts strangely. He believes she is being mind-controlled/brainwashed by a device hooked up to a hair dryer at a beauty salon.

Hi, Not sure about the small dense guys but the hairdryer one is by Theodore Sturgeon. Not sure of the title but I know I just saw it recently. I'll look it up in the next few days.

Hairdryer story is "The Chromium Helmet" by Theodore Sturgeon.

Possibly the one about little men is Earth Lords by Gordon R Dickson.

I think the story you are thinking of about the man-like evil creature who is super dense and can walk thru solid matter is a story called " The Microscopic Giants" by Paul Ernst. I read it in a collection called "Alfred Hitchcock's Monster Museum" from 1965. It was first published in 1936 in Thrilling Wonder Stories.

I'm sure I read somewhere that in Norse mythology, the dwarves or svart-alfar were supposed to be able to walk through rocks: the element of earth offered no more resistance to them than air does to us or water to fish. Though I've not been able find an online reference for this and can't lay my hand on the couple of relevant books I own.

I haven't run into that idea before, but it is a great notion.
