Frankenstein's monster playing baseball

I expect someone will remember this one. I believe it was published at some point in the 1990s. The basic idea is Frankenstein's monster is playing minor league baseball in the south, perhaps in the 1930s.

This book is called Brittle Innings by Michael Bishop. An excellent read.
