I cannot track down this short story. It would have been published in F&SF or some similar small format magazine (but not, I think, Analog), along about 1964-65. As I recall, it was not in a paperback, but it's been fortyfour years minimum so I could be wrong. It was comic, somewhat free association in its style, and included references to something called the Brass Nodes of the Universe--which were housed in a tent and unimpressive in person, perhaps a nude statue several miles high that drove a race insane from seeing it on their horizon, other elements. I could rest, finally, if I could find the title and author of this peculiar story. Thanks for any suggestions.
