Grant Opportunity for older writers

The Speculative Literature Foundation is offering a grant of $750 to writers of speculative literature of 50 years or older. At the moment we have only a few applications. The deadline is March 31st. For more information, check out:

I have mixed feelings about this, as I have about awards for women writers or for Black writers. As a writer who is over 50, I don't want to be categorized, and I don't really need the $750. I write because I love to write, and I submit my stories for publication because I want my stories to be read.

That's an interesting point. I can see having a grant geared for people who are underrepresented in a field specifically because they never had the same opportunities or were previously discriminated against in some way. But I'm not sure if older writers in spec fic are really underrepresented or have disadvantages in other ways. In fact, possibly many older writers are financially more secure than their younger counterparts, though I have absolutely no data to base that on.
