I make a point of not looking at the name until after I've graded the work. Of course, in the case of some students I can tell their work at a glance. In any case, I'm as happing bringing an F student up to a D as I am bringing an A student a little insight or guidence they might not have gotten on their own. Most of my students are ignorant as sin, but young and smart and strong. It's not their fault they've been cheated out of the good education I got in the day when intelligent women went into teaching because other occupations were closed to them.
