Obituary: Susan M. Garrett

Susan M. Garrett (b. 1961) died on August 14 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Garrett began publishing fan fiction in 1983 in her Doctor Who fanzine Time Winds and she went on to write fan fiction of several other television shows and in 1997 was hired to write a novelization of Forever Knight, entitled Intimations of Mortality for Berkeley.

    I knew Susan back in the days of Forever Knight fandom. We lost touch, as happens, but I never forgot her. She was a brilliant, witty and generous woman, and her passing is heartbreaking to all who knew and loved her.

    Just an FYI – she was among those listed “In Memoriam” at the opening of the Hugo Awards this year; if we had to lose her, it was nice to know that she had that kind of impact.
