Diana Wynne Jones was my favorite author; the book I read of hers was Howl’s Moving Castle. I read that book five times and it’s still always good as the first time through.

I don’t know of another author who created so many different consistent worlds. Her writing was always positive but never saccharine. She made you rejoice in people and see possibilities. Thank you Diana.

She was my favorite fantasy author.

I haven’t read all her books but the ones I have were a balm and a healing for me, and an inspiration to write about things that matter to me. I loved her.

My condolences to her family……. :_(

I’m sorry to hear this. I first encountered Jones’ work as an adult, but a good read is a good read, and over the years, I have sought out her books. My daughter has dyslexia, and as a young child, hated to read. I read several of Jones’ books to her, a chapter at a time, and she eventually started to pick up the books and read the next chapter by herself. It was a struggle for her at first, but Jones helped teach my daughter that reading is fun, and worth a little effort. Now my daughter is an avid reader.

The fantasy genre is poorer today.

In 1994-96 Diana was gracious enough to send me some of her notes when I was writing my MA thesis, It’s Entertainment, But is it Literature? based on three of her novels. It was an interesting exercise, and a great pleasure to be able to write about such an inspiring author. Sadly, my requests to be allowed to send Diana a copy of my thesis were ignored by the university (then The University of Kent at Canterbury). I have enjoyed her work for many years, using it in classrooms for teaching purposes, and for my own recreation.

I lost my mother at Christmas, so I know the sorrow and loss her family and friends are suffering. Please accept my condolences. We are all saddened when a gracious and loving spirit like Diana’s leaves us.
