As an old friend, I saw him last at Lance Casebeer’s memorial after the last Lance Con in Portland. He had suffered a stroke and I noticed then (03) that he had gained weight. Sorry to hear of his death. He was always helpful with his knowledge of SF.

It should be corrected to say that Bill was the owner of Escape Books in Eugene, OR and a collector and reseller of Sci-Fi, Collectable Comic, and Pulp FIction era books and original cover artwork. Bill’s loss is indeed tragic and he has touched many lives with his interest and enthusiam in the collectables publishing business. He has been a strong influence for change in others, as well.

I was just following up on an order made in early September and have just discovered Bill’s passing. We exchanged many emails this past summer about out teen-aged years in the same area of Chicago’s western suburbs discovering that we had a lot in common. He was so friendly. We are the same age so we may have actually been in some of the same places at the same time. This includes the huge ABC pulp magazine store that was in the Loop in the 50s and early 60s. We both knew it well. This is quite upsetting. Bill, you will be missed.

I just learned about Bill’s death. I’m shocked beyond words.

I had a long talk with Bill about his weight, at the con. Bill said he was proud to weigh 333 pounds, one sixth of a ton. I, having lost so much weight 11 years ago (and more to the point having kept it off), have to admit I’ve become an unofficial member of the Intolerant of the Weight of Others Police. Mostly I keep my mouth shut, but in Bill’s case…

I first met him likely at the 1980 Norwescon, possibly earlier. He was the silent partner in Pulphouse Publishing, to which he loaned thousands, and was slowly — too slowly in my opinion — being paid back by the owners. I hope he left a will, and that these monies will be repaid.

He was an excellent bookseller, and a really nice guy.

Bill Trojan was a friend and customer, but was not the owner/publisher of Adventure House. I am the owner/publisher and am still in business of selling pulp reprints, as well as those that are originals.
