Many of us in Chicago had met Dick at his dealers table(s) when he was based here, most of us helping out at times, and we all learned a great many things from him. In addition I remember sharing meals with him on a number of occasions, a few times with my then young son; his kindness towards all of us; his humor; many things that made him a good friend. Two items, from among many, stand out in my memory, he was about the only one that made it back to Chicago from Michigan during a blizzard on the Sunday of a ConFusion (I was a passenger in his car that year) and his wall of books at LAcon II as he was the only dealer who was able to get that particular book due to his great rapport with both publishers and fen. Dick you will be missed by all who knew you.

I first got to know Dick when I haunted his table at conventions, and many times walked away with a stack of books I could barely carry. He had helped my late wife Patti and I set up our book business, not only with advice but setting us up with wholesalers and conventions.

I missed seeing him at conventions after he retired, and always hoped to see him again.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He was a great friend to me when he was in Chicago and Cincinnati. I learned many things about life from him.

The Great Convention in the Sky just got a hell of a Dealer Room Manager!
