They are asking for fan artists to send us a piece of original, unpublished artwork to be included, along with contact information. The fanzine will be in an electronic format and either horizontal or vertical artwork is welcome. The submission deadline is February 15 with the goal of publishing the fanzine on March 1.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Fan artist <span class="name">Terry Jeeves</span> died on May 29.  Jeeves was a founder of the British Science Fiction Association and served as editor of its &#8216;zine, <i>Vector</i>. He also published his own fanzine, <i>Erg</i> for more than forty years and was the co-editor of <i>Triode</i> with Eric Bentcliffe. Jeeves won the Doc Weir Award for service to British fandom , the Rotsler Award, and in 2010 was inducted into the First Fandom Hall of Fame. In 2010, Thomas Sadler published <i>Wartime Daze</i>, a fanzine tribute to Jeeves that included numerous articles and art by Jeeves.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Comic book illustrator <span class="name">Mike Esposito (b.1927)</span> died on October 24. Esposito worked on <i>Wonder Woman</i> during the Silver Age and co-created the Metal Men for DC.  In the mid-60s, he began freelancing for Marvel, using the name Mickey Dee to hide his identity from DC. Esposito worked on many of the major DC and Marvel titles and also helped create Hell-Rider. Esposito was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2005. One of his Wonder Woman drawings was featured on a US postage stamp in 2006.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Subterranean Press, along with John Scalzi and Wil Wheaton, is holding a fan fiction writing contest to benefit the Lupus Alliance of America. Entrants should write a 400-2,000 word story describing a painting of Wil Wheaton on a flying cat unicorn and John Scalzi as an orc.  The winner of the contest will be paid for their story (10 cents a word), win a prize pack of books from Subterranean Press, and will have their story published in a special electronic chapbook featuring stories about the painting, written by Scalzi, Wheaton, Catherynne Valente and Patrick Rothfuss, to be published later this year, with profits to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America. Entries should be sent to fanfic@scalzi.com by 11:59pm Eastern, June 30, 2010.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Artist <span class="name">Robert McCall (b.1919)</span> died on February 26.  McCall learned he was colorblind when trying to become a pilot in World War II.  FOllowing the war, he worked as an illustrator for Bielefelt Studios and Charles Cooper Studios.  Long an avid fan of aviation, in the 1960s, he worked for NASA to help create illustrations for NASA and in 1967 he began working on the promotional art for Stanley Kubrick&#8217;s film <i>2001: a space odyssey</i>.  Other science fiction film posters he created include <i>Star Trek: The Motion Picture</i>, <i>Meteor</i>, and <i>The Black Hole</i>.</p>
