Detcon1 Young Adult Awards

The special awards for Young Adult and Middle Grade SF were presented on July 19 at Detcon1 during the half-time show of the Masquerade. All members of Detcon1 were invited to vote for the awards.

Zettel Cancels Detcon1 Appearance

Sarah Zettel, who was scheduled to be one of three emcees at next weekend’s Detcon1, this year’s NASFIC, has had to cancel her appearance. Zettel’s co-emcees, Jim C. Hines and Tom Smith, will handle the duties during the convention.

Detcon1 Young Readers Nominees

Detcon1, this year’s NASFIC, has announced the nominees for their Young Readers Awards. Nominees were selection through a process open to anyone to determine the finalists in two categories, although only members of Detcon1 may vote for the winners. The awards will be presented at Detcon1 in a ceremony in conjunction with the Golden Duck Awards.

Detcon1 Extends YA Nomination Deadline

Detcon1 has announced an extension for nominating works for the Detcon1 Young Adult Speculative Fiction Awards until March 7. Nominations will be accepted from anyone, although only members of Detcon1 will be eligible to vote on the final ballot.

Detcon1 Accounced YA Author GoH

Detcon1, this year’s North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFIC), has announced Nnedi Okorafor as their Young Adult Author Guest of Honor. Okorafor debut novel, the YA book Zahrah the Windseeker won the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa. Detcon1 will be putting a special focus on YA literature at the convention. In addition to having Ms. Okorafor as a guest, Detcon1 will also present two awards for YA and Middle Grade Speculative Fiction in a joint ceremony with the 2014 Golden Duck Awards.

Detcon1 Offers YA Award

Detcon1, this year’s NASFiC, has announced the creation of an Award for YA and Middle Grade Speculative Fiction. Presented in conjunction with the Gold Duck Awards, given each year by SuperConDuckTivity, the Detcon1 Award is accepting nominations from the general public through February 28. The final ballot will be provided to members of Detcon1, who will select the winner, who will be announced at Detcon1 in July.
