University of California-Riverside has announced the launch of its Science Fiction and Technoculture Studies this fall. The program will explore links between science fiction studies, science and technology studies, and technoculture studies. The program will begin as a doctorate, but will eventually add an undergraduate program.
Ray Canterbury (R-Greenbriar) has introduced a bill to the West Virginia state house which would require teaching of science fiction novels in schools in an attempt to stimulate interest in the fields of math and science. The bill, HR 2983 would amend current West Virginia educational standards. Introduced on March 19, it has been referred to committee.
