World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement

An author and an editor have been named as recipients of the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014. The Awards will be presented on November 9 in Washington, DC at the World Fantasy Con Banquet. The winners are Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and Ellen Datlow.

Texas Wins Worldcon

Texas won the right to host the 71st World Science Fiction Convention in 2013. LoneStarCon 3 will be held in San Antonio, Texas from Aug. 29-Sept. 2. It will be sponsored by ALAMO. LoneStarCon 3 was elected with 694 votes out of 760 votes. Guests of Honor will be Ellen Datlow, James Gunn, Norman Spinrad, Darrel K. Sweet, and Willie Siros. Paul Cornell will serve as toastmaster.

HWA Lifetime Achievement Winners

Al Feldstein and Ellen Datlow have been named winners of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Horror Writers of America. Feldstein is known for his lifetime work in comics, beginning with EC in 1948. Datlow has a long history as an horror editor. The awards will be presented during the Stoker Awards Banquet at the Stoker Weekend at Long Island Marriott Hotel and Convention Center which is scheduled to run from June 16-19.

Datlow Speaks

Ellen Datlow will speak on “The Impact of the Economy on The Current Editing Climate” at the next Garden State Horror Writers on September 12 at 11 AM. The meeting and talk will be held at the Monmouth County Library (125 Symmes Dr. in Manalapan, NJ). Admission is free.

Poe Funeral

The city of Baltimore will be holding a funeral for Edgar Allan Poe beginning on October 7, 2009. The Poe house will be open for viewing from noon to 11pm. At midnight on October 8, a vigil will begin at the Poe Monument at Westminster Graveyard, lasting until 7am. A funeral procession and two services will be held on October 11. Poe’s eulogy will be given by editor Ellen Datlow.
