James Gunn’s Ad Astra Launches

The first issue of James Gunn’s Ad Astra, a new annual journal of science fiction, reviews, and criticism, has been published. This year’s theme was Communication and Information and includes articles by Jean Asselin, Sheila Finch, and Victor Grech. Fiction includes stories by Peter Charron, Eric Cline, Shaenon K. Garrity, Adria Laycraft, Nikki J. North, and Adrian Simmons. The theme for the 2013 issue has not yet been announced.

Obituary: Jane Gunn

Jane Gunn (b.1925) died on September 27. Gunn, born Jane Anderson was the wife of author and academic James Gunn. She worked for the Kansas University News Bureau, as a secretary to the head librarian at Northwestern University, as a reporter for the Kansas City Kansan, as the librarian for the KU School of Journalism, and as the co-owner and later sole owner of the Emporium, a Lawrence art consignment gallery.

Texas Wins Worldcon

Texas won the right to host the 71st World Science Fiction Convention in 2013. LoneStarCon 3 will be held in San Antonio, Texas from Aug. 29-Sept. 2. It will be sponsored by ALAMO. LoneStarCon 3 was elected with 694 votes out of 760 votes. Guests of Honor will be Ellen Datlow, James Gunn, Norman Spinrad, Darrel K. Sweet, and Willie Siros. Paul Cornell will serve as toastmaster.
