Kraken Rum has announced the winners of the 2012 Kitschies, presented for the most progressive, intelligent, and entertaining works of genre fiction. Winners will receive a cash prize, a trophy, and a bottle of Kraken Rum. The winners were announced on February 26 at the Free Word Centre in London.

Patrick Ness, the winner of the 2011 Red Tentacle for his novel A Monster Calls will join the panel of judges of the Kitschies. Ness replaces outgoing judge Lauren Beukes, who had previously won the award. Ness joins editor Rebecca Levene and the award’s co-founders, Anne C. Perry and Jared Shurin who will will select the Red Tentacle and Golden Tentacle, for the novel and debut categories.
