Gomoll Wins Rotsler

Jeanne Gomoll has been named the winner of the 2017 Rotsler Award for best fan artist. The Rotsler Award is sponsored by the Southern California Institute for Fan Interests. Established in 1998, the award carries an honorarium of US$300. Sue Mason, Mike Glyer, and John Hertz served as this year’s judges.

Loscon 42 Writing Contest

Loscon 42, which will be held from November 27-29, will be holding a writing contest for aspiring authors. Writers can enter stories in three categories: Youth (6-12), Young adult (13-20), or Adult (21 plus). Stories may be fantasy or science fiction between 500 and 1,000 words. Youth can supplement their stories with pictures (each picture counting as 50 words towards the word count). Submissions are due by October 31 and should be sent to chairman@loscon.org.

Rotsler to Chamberlain

C. Ross Chamberlain has been awarded the 2012 Rotsler Award for long-time fannish artistic achievement in science fiction at Loscon 39 on November 24. The Rotsler was established in 1998 and includes a $300 honorarium. Sponsored by the Southern California Institute for Fan Interests, the award is named for William Rotsler. The current judges include Claire Brialey, Mike Glyer, and John Hertz.

Rotsler Winner Announced

D. West, the winner of the 2011 Rotsler Award for Fan Artist, sponsored by the Southern California Institute for Fan Interests, was announced at Loscon. Founded in 1998, the award comes with a $300 honorarium. Sample of West’s work was displayed at Loscon. West has previously won three FAAn Awards for Best Artist and has three Hugo nominations for best fan artist, in 1979, 1987, and 1999.
