Skylark Award

At Boskone 51, the weekend of February 14-16, this year’s recipients of the Skylark award was announced. The Skylark Award is presented for significant contributions through work in the field of science fiction and by exemplifying the personal qualities which made the late “Doc” Smith well-loved by those who knew him. This year’s award was won by Robert J. Sawyer.

Obituary: Pam Fremon

Boston fan Pam Fremon died on November 7. Fremon served as chair of Boskone twice, in 2002 and 2006, and also served several terms as Clerk of NESFA. In 1990, she was selected as a Fellow of NESFA. Fremon was in charge of signage for Noreascon 4 in 2005. She helped compile the Silverlock Companion, which was included in NESFA Press’s 2004 edition of John Myers Myers’s novel.

At Boskone 49, the weekend of February 17-19, this year’s recipients of the Skylark award was announced. The Skylark Award is presented for significant contributions through work in the field of science fiction and by exemplifying the personal qualities which made the late “Doc” Smith well-loved by those who knew him. The Gaughan Award is presented to an emerging artist and no winner was announced this year. In addition, a new Fellow of NESFA was named.

Obituary: Wendall Ing

Boston fan Wendall Ing (b.1940) died on November 11 after a lengthy illness. Ing was active in Boston fandom and had been named a Fellow of NESFA. He was active in the search which found the building that became the NESFA Clubhouse.
