Fan Denied Seat at EU Debate

Swedish SF fan Andrea Andersdotter, who was elected to represent Sweden in the EU Parliament for the Pirate Party in 2009, was nominated by her party for the EU Presidency. Andersdotter has been informed that she will not be able to participate in the EU Presidential debates. The EU explanation appears to be that Andersdotter missed the initial filing deadline and that the Party Group the Pirate party belongs to is already sending a candidate to the debate.

Burstein Considers Congress

Author Michael A. Burstein has announced the formation of an Exploratory Committee to consider seeking the Democratic nomination to represent Massachussett’s 4th Congressional District, currently represented by Barney Frank, who has announced his resignation at the end of his current term. Burstein, who has been nominated for 10 Hugo Awards, has served three terms as a trustee for the Brookline (MA) Public Library.

A Fan in Parliament

Swedish fan Amelia Andersdotter has been permitted to take her seat representing Sweden in the EU Parliament. Andersdotter was elected to Parliament in 2009 representing the Swedish Pirate Party, but owing to internal EU red tape only now been able to claim her seat.
