Worlds Imagined

The Cushing Memorial Library and Archives at Texas A&M will be hosting an exhibition entitled Worlds Imagined: Maps of Imaginary Places Collection from February 9 – October 6. The exhibit includes maps of places in fantasy literature. The exhibition will include lectures throughout its run.

Martin to Receive Honorary Degree

Texas A&M has announced that George R. R. Martin will receive an honorary degree. Master’s papers are archived at A&M’s Cushing Memorial Library and Archives. The approval of the award is scheduled to take place on February 10.

Martin Donates Tolkien

George R.R. Martin donated a rare first edition of J.R.R. TOlkien’s The Hobbit to Texas A&M. The volume became the five millionth volume in the library’s collection. The first print run of The Hobbit, in 1937, was only 1,500 copies.

Hall Retires

Hal Hall, who has served as curator of the Science Fiction and Fanzine collection at Texas A&M since 1978 retired on August 30. Hall built the collection to more than 46,000 items. He will be succeeded by Catherine Coke, who is also an SF fan.
