Obituary: George A. Romero

Producer George A. Romero (b.1940) died on July 16. Romero wrote and directed Night of the Living Dead in 1968 and made several sequels, including Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and others, defining the concept of zombies for a generation and making an indelible mark on horror films.

Obituary: Bill Hinzman

Actor S. William Hinzman (b.1936) died after a battle with cancer on February 5. Hinzman made his debut in George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead where he was the first zombie on screen and subsequently made a career out of playing zombies. He had the title role in 1988’s Flesheaster, and often was cast in roles like “The Experienced Zombie” and “Romero the Zombie.”

Pontypool Screening

ChiZine Publications and Rue Morgue are presenting a screening of the horror film Pontypool on December 3 at the Toronto Underground Cinema, 186 Spadina Ave in Toronto, Ontario. The film is based on the Bruce McDonald’s novel Pontypool Changes Everything, published by ECW and ChiZine. Following the film, there will be a question and answer session with screen writer Tony Burgess and actors Stephen McHattie and Lisa Houle.
