Oracle's Queen Oracle's Queen by Lynn Flewelling
reviewed by Sherwood Smith
Tamír is now a girl, and a queen -- but she's not left to sit idly on a throne and charm all who see her. Instead, she has to get used to being a girl while coping with the detritus of battle, and of a war-torn kingdom. Under threat from beyond its borders. She also has to deal with Korin, who was once her friend. He cannot believe in her transformation -- a decision fostered by the mage Niryn, who has his own motivations for doing what he does.

King Erius, who managed to seize power when the last queen died out, refuses to allow the prophecy to come to pass. Instead he slaughters mercilessly: priests, wizards, the original people who inhabited Skala, anyone who even speaks of the prophecy. This caused some people to take pretty drastic measures. The King, determined never to have a girl child around to try and take the throne from him, has had any eligible daughter killed. His sister, who gives birth to twins, kills her own newborn son, and with the help of a witch uses his likeness to cover his sister.

Tobin wakes up after a harrowing experience in which he discovered that he is really a she, but imprisoned in a boy's body. But this boy's body is the body Tobin is used to, has lived in for twelve years! There is hardly time to brood over it, though, as there are serious problems all around: his squire and best friend is severely wounded, maybe dying; his horrible guardian wants him back under control; his uncle, the king, who ordered the deaths of all warrior women and their babies, might be coming back from the wars. And weaving eerily in and out of real life is Brother, the demonic ghost of Tobin's dead twin brother, who is gaining powers of his own.

The Bone Doll's Twin The Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling

It begins with a unusual and intriguing premise: in order to fulfill a prophecy and protect the rightful female heir to the throne of Skala, two wizards, with the aid of an outlawed witch, attend a royal birthing of twins, born to the sister of a king who has usurped what, by tradition, is a matriarchal throne, in the process eliminating every possible feminine contender to his reign, even, it is rumored, secretly murdering his own female kin.

Traitor's Moon Traitor's Moon by Lynn Flewelling

Although this is the 3rd book in the Nightrunner series, you won't be missing key plot points in previous novels since each stands neatly alone. Here, the warrior Queen Idrilain of Skala lies dying from wounds received in battle against the fierce armies of neighbouring Plenimar. Idrilain knows Skala will fall unless her people can convince the magical Aurënfaie to ally with them. This is a fast-paced fantasy adventure with fully realized characters and more than enough intrigue, magic, and danger to hold your attention.
