Future Wars Future Wars edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff
reviewed by Ian Nichols
There is something redolent of failure in the title of this anthology, as if it takes for granted that war is so much a part of human nature that it will always be with us. Given current events, this may be correct. Given the massive sales of books which deal with war and the mechanisms of war, they have obviously tapped into a fairly lucrative market. Sad, really.

Silicon Dreams Silicon Dreams edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff
reviewed by Rich Horton
This is a theme original anthology on the subject of Artificial Intelligences, particularly AIs inhabiting robots. The introduction suggests that "robots are the heart of science fiction," in essence because intelligent robots would be, in a sense, our "children." While arguing that that makes robots the "heart" of science fiction seems wrong, it is certainly true that the theme, or the question of what responsibility we will bear for the AI's we create, is indeed an important SF theme.

Past Imperfect Past Imperfect edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff
reviewed by Rich Horton
This is a themed original anthology on the subject of time travel. The dozen stories included ring some mostly familiar changes on the time travel idea: variations of visiting yourself in the past and fixing things, of falling in love with someone in the past, of visiting the past to collect something valuable when it is still cheap, and of tangling past events into paradoxical knots that seem cleverly resolved to the reader even as the participants are confused.

Far Frontiers Far Frontiers edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff
reviewed by Rich Horton
The anthology's theme is simply the exploration of new frontiers: frontiers in space, or in knowledge, or in our characters. Rich's favourites include "Traces" by Katherine M. Massie-Ferch, Robin Wayne Bailey's "Angel on the Outward Side" and Terry D. England's "Out of the Cradle."

Battle Magic Battle Magic edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Larry Segriff
reviewed by Todd Richmond
Overall the short stories in this compilation are very good, says Todd, who doesn't normally like short stories. But, he found that few of the stories have anything to do with using magic in battle. They are tales of magic, but not necessarily of combat.
