Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress in a local bar and grill in Bon Temps, Louisiana. She's a fox by every definition of the
word. Great build, blond hair, blue eyes, about 5'7", etc. Something about her blood is special too because
every Vampire she meets want a bite.
Sookie has never had much of a social life including sex as she has a disability, as she puts it.

The story starts slowly with Sookie working a wedding
where she gets hassled by an ex and she meets a couple of mysterious strangers. From
there the story explodes in to a collection of threads including a hostile takeover attempt by vampires
from Las Vegas, a clan war between rival werewolf packs in the next town over, fighting a smear campaign
initiated by an angry shape changer, meeting her house mate's family and resolving her brother's marital discord.

Jason, Sookie's brother, is experiencing his first full moon as a werepanther. Amazingly enough, Jason embraces his new life and enjoys
shifting. As much of a relief as this is for Sookie, trouble is looming. Someone is killing shifters and Jason is
the prime suspect. To add to Sookie's turmoil, Eric does not remember his time with Sookie, but knows something
important happened.

Sookie and the Vampire Bill are once again thrust into trouble. Sookie is very unhappy with the Vampire
Bill. It would seem she is being dumped, but no one knows for sure where Bill is and what he is doing. What is a girl to
do? Just accept some financial settlement or try and stake the cad who left her without even a goodbye? While Sookie is nursing
her broken heart, it would appear the Vampire Bill has met some foul play.

Sookie, a very blonde, buxom, barmaid is not your average girl in Bon Temps. She has the ability to read other's minds. This
ability is not an asset when working in a bar. Imagine if you could 'hear' someone's thoughts, worries, dreams, their most intimate
feelings. How is a girl supposed to find a boyfriend in the backwater of Louisiana when she is acutely aware of all his
thoughts? Sookie has found a solution -- the Vampire Bill.

There are so many things always ready to go wrong for Sookie. Her telepathy is no blessing, no
matter what those who can only dream of the ability imagine. Certainly, it has helped her out a few times, but it brings her
nothing but trouble and the kind of reputation that guarantees she will never be fully accepted, in any social circle. It makes
for a lonely life and a lack of self-esteem that is completely undeserved.

Let's recap, Sookie Stackhouse is being pursued by four men: Bill, the local vampire who is sort of an ex- but not really; Eric the
Viking vampire, who is also the Vampire Sheriff of Area 5; Alcide, a werewolf with a vicious ex- who is definitely still in the
picture; and lastly, Sam, the loyal collie, owner of Merlotte's and Sookie's boss. The vampires need Sookie for her telepathic abilities.
