In bayou area of Louisiana, a murder has taken place and you just know more gore is on the way. Detective Mark French, a man trying to forget his past, is the investigator on the case. As he struggles with his own problems, he fights to uncover the truth behind the strange goings-on in the secluded, little town. Before he can even get started, French meets up with the latest addition, a quirky and alluring young doctor who has come back to her old haunt to sub for another doctor -- and, inevitably, becomes embroiled in the case.

The government wants to artificially improve human intelligence. The private sector wants the enormous profits that go with any such advances. Either one is a dangerous enemy to make -- together they are almost invulnerable and omnipotent. Paranoia aside, have you ever thought how easy it would be to make someone disappear if you have the money and the power? Think about it now.

The author takes us back again to coastal Mississippi for a new story of science and medicine gone awry. Biloxi seems like a quiet city, but that's part of the problem; bad things are happening behind the lazy, sleepy fašade. The horror remains in the shadows until it smacks you right in the face.
