After reading February's movie reviews, I do think they can be cut down. The Babylon AD one spent 3-4 pages reviewing the director's history. I think that space could have been better spent with a story. The review itself was good, but some of the setup could easily be trimmed.

Actually, I like the idea of a bi-monthly F&SF. Not that I don't get excited by having it drop into my mailbox monthly, but I have to admit that I usually sit down and read 2 or 3 issues back-to-back anyway, so it won't make that much difference to me.

I imagine the change will save money on postage, on printing, and on cover art and such. And I cannot imagine that the change was decided on lightly; sixty years as a monthly is an awfully long tradition.

Analog and Asimov's have changed their page size and count; I wouldn't be surprised if they had considered the bi-monthly route as well. Changing times call for it, I guess.

Still, whatever works to keep all three magazines coming is well worthwhile.

When 'Heavy Metal' did this like, 25 years ago, I thought it was over for them.

    Who's laughin' now?
