I have yet to read anything by China Mieville. Any recommendations on where to start: "The City and the City"? "Perdido Street Station"?

I've read everything by Mieville except the most recent, and they're all good in different ways... though I find he tends to get bored with his setup about 90% of the way through* and then rushes the ending. Usually with a high body count and much gore.

    * Not sure that's the right description, but those are the words that come to mind.

Perdido Street Station is a great place to start, since it's delightfully weird and shows off all his strengths in one place. Then you can work through the rest of his stuff in chronological order to see how he's grown as a writer.

He just came out with a non-science fiction history book https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/07/books/tell-us-5-things-about-your-book-china-mieville-on-the-russian-revolution.html
