Time seems to unnoticeably creep by. This issue of Analog seems to have been passed by. Still, I have been thinking about John Cramer's article "Why Does Matter Exist?". My derivative question though, "What is matter?"

The common interpretation of matter is that it is a particle that has mass and dimensions, like a grain of sand or a marble. Seems that as we dig deeper in the concept of matter, matter may not be a particle. Then what is it?
