I saw "The Wandering Earth" when it was briefly in US theaters (as well as having read the novella it's based upon). While it was very interesting to see an SF epic from a largely Chinese perspective, alas, it had all the bad tropes of bad SF movies: thin, forgettable characters, incomprehensible plot, and mind-numbing spectacle in place of actual narrative. I like the original novella, and many of Liu Cixin's stories are compelling and original critiques of both communism and capitalism; I highly recommend them, in particular his short story collection under the same title. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the movie version of "The Wandering Earth."
