2020 begins my nineteenth year as Mr. Midshipman Easy in my progression as a forumnist sailing the Internet surf. Some have been here longer than me but it would be a complicated set of circumstances if they could claim not to be older than me, so I'm saying I can still set a strong arm to the helm. Join me out on the deck, any of you who are just arriving!

What, a memory? Well, sticking to F&SF Forum, I remember when Gordon Van Gelder mentioned Hieronymus Bosch in reference to something I had in Surprising Stories...a piece of Bosch's art. I wished the discussion of that had gone on longer, because I would have been interested in discussing that art and considering what sort of world it referred to, but I didn't hear much further comment about it from anyone. I recall also talking about the idea of there being avant-garde in the writing that was appearing in F&SF, over ten years ago.
