R.I.P. Richard Lupoff (1935-2020)

  1. Am very sorry to learn of his passing. My first exposure to him was his story in Again, Dangerous Visions in 1972. A great lover of comics and an ERB expert, along with his fiction he wrote fairly extensively on both topics over the years.

    He was a dear friend, much loved in the whole SF community.

    We published nine stories of his in F&SF, including "12:01 PM," which was adapted into a TV movie.

    He also contributed the second "Curiosities" column we published: https://www.sfsite.com/fsf/1998/cur9807.htm . (And a second one a few years later: https://www.sfsite.com/fsf/2013/cur1303.htm .)

    Although I unfortunately never met him, he and I go way back, to his fine book on ERB and his work for the Canaveral Press hardcover reissues in the 1960s, which were the backbone of my ERB collection in those days.

    I feel a great sense of loss today. He was very much a part of my Golden Age.
