Baker Fighting Cancer

Author Kage Baker was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2009. Initial surgery went well, but on Christmas Eve doctors discovered that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. A tumor was removed, but it has regrown, and there are also tumors in her lungs. Baker’s prognosis does not look good. She is currently too weak for phone calls.

I’ve been in almost daily contact with Kage and her sister, Kathleen. Unless they’ve been discovered since last night, when she was not in hospital but at home, there are no tumors in her lungs. She is having daily treatment, and though the disease is strong is is also very responsive to the treatment. No, she’s not not up to phone calls, but prayers are encouraged. She’s resting, and to a surprising extent, writing.

The information about the lung tumors came from Kathleen’s letter posted at the link at the end of the article above. In it, Kathleen wrote, “There are also 5 tumors in her lungs, though all of them are mercifully smaller; they are responding fast, too, and she said tonight that she can breathe a bit better already.” (Fourth paragraph of quoted material)
