Obituary: Tura Satana

Actress Tura Satana (b.1935) died on February 4 in Reno, NV. Satana began erotic dancing at the age of 13 and appeared in films including The Astro-Zombies, Mark of the Astro-Zombies, and provided voice work for The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. She is best known for he appearance in Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. She got her start in film after posing for silent film comedian Harold Lloyd, who suggested she go into film.

Poe House Facing Funding Cuts

The city of Baltimore has cut all funding towards the maintenance of the home of Edgar Allan Poe. The house, which is run by the city, hasn’t received funding since a package of spending cuts and tax increases was passed in Summer 2010. The house has been run using monies collected over the years by curator Jeff Jerome. According to Baltimore Planning Director Tom Stosur, the city is looking for a plan to make the museum self-sustaining and received four bids. A similar home in which Poe lived in Philadelphia is run by the National Parks Service.

Liverpool Literary Walk

The Liverpool Central Library in the UK will be incorporating a walkway listing book, movie, and album titles, a literary panel listing authors, and a series of quotations in its £50 million redevelopment plan. A panel of experts have released a potential listing of the inclusions and welcomes comments. Authors on the panel primarily of genre interest include Clive Barker, Ramsey Campbell, and Olaf Stapledon. Works on the walk of genre interest include Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Lord of the Rings, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Star Wars, The Mabinogion, The Chronicles of Narnia, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and Peter Pan.
