The winners of the 2016 Robert E. Howard Foundation Awards were announced on June 10 at the REH Days celebration in Cross Plains, Texas.

  • The Atlantean Award — Outstanding Achievement, Book (non-anthology/collection): The Collected Letters of REH: Index and Addenda, by Bobby Derie
  • The Hyrkanian Award — Outstanding Achievement, Essay (Print): “Evolutionary Otherness: Anthropological Anxiety in Robert E. Howard’s ‘Worms of the Earth’,” by Jeffrey Shanks
  • The Cimmerian — Outstanding Achievement, Essay (Online): tie “Hester Jane Ervin Howard and Tuberculosis,” by Barbara Barrett (3 parts); “Barbarism and Civilization in the Letters of Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft: A Summary with Commentary,” by David Piske
  • The Venarium Award — Emerging Scholar; Bobby Derie
  • The Stygian — Outstanding Achievement, Website: REH: Two-Gun Raconteur blog, edited by Damon Sasser
  • The Aquilonian Award — Outstanding Achievement, Periodical: REH: Two-Gun Raconteur blog, edited by Damon Sasser
  • The Black Lotus Award – Outstanding Achievement, Multimedia: 2015 Howard days Panels, produced by Ben Friberg
  • The Black River — Special Achievement: Rob Roehm, for his biographical research on REH
  • The Rankin Award — Artistic achievement in the depiction of REH’s life and/or work: Tomas Giorello and Jose Villarrubia, for cover and interior artwork for King Conan: Wolves Beyond the Border
  • Black Circle Award for Lifetime Achievement: Roy Thomas
