Preliminary reports indicate that Helsinki has won the right to host the 2017 Worldcon. Helsinki received approximately 52% of the votes on the first ballot, winning outright in a race with Washington, DC, Montreal, and Shizuoka. The official results, convention name, and Guests of Honor will be announced at the Saturday business meeting at Sasquan.
Helsinki has announced that it will bid to host the Worldcon in 2017. Helsinki finished second in the voting for the 2015 Worldcon (losing to Spokane). Helsinki will once again be in a race with multiple other bids as Japan and Montreal have previously announced bids for 2017.
