Susan Allison, who has served as editorial director for Berkley Publishing Group, including Ace Books, has announced her retirement effective July 1. Allison has been with the company for 33 years. She was made editor-in-chief in 1982 and a vice president in 1985. In 1990, Allison was the guest of honor at World Fantasy Con.
Ace/Roc Books is looking for readers to help promote their books. Applicants selected to be Ace Roc Stars will receive packages of books (and occasionally swag) over the course of six months in return for promoting the books they like on social media. Applicants for the first group of readers runs until January 4.
Editor Diana Gill will be moving to Penguin Books to serve as Executive Editor of the Ace, Roc, and Berkley lines following Ginjer Buchanan’s retirement. Gill has served as the head of HarperVoyager US and has been with Harper for close to sixteen years. She left Harper on March 21 and will begin working at Ace/Roc on April 1. She joined Morrow/Avon in 1998.
Ginjer Buchanan has announced that she will retire in March 2014. Buchanan was hired at Berkley Books in 1984 and helped build the Ace and Roc science fiction and fantasy lists. Buchanan was named editor-in-chief of the two lines in 2007. In 2013, she was honored by SFWA for her lengthy career at Ace/Roc, as well as her prior career working for Pocket and the Science Fiction Book Club.
