Hitchhikers Radio Series 6 Announced

BBC 4 has announced that next year they will broadcast an adaptation of Eoin Fowler’s sixth Hitchhikers novel, And Another Thing… using much of the radio series original cast. Simon Jones, Mark Wing-Davey, and Geoffrey McGivern will reprise their roles from the radio show with Jones, Wing-Davey, and Sandra Dickinson reprising their roles from the television series. The new series will be written and produced by Dirk Maggs, who produced the broadcasts of the third through fifth novels between 2003 and 2005. The announcement was made on the 38th anniversary of the publication of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

His Dark Materials to BBC

The BBC has announced they will be producing a television series based on Phillip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy. The eight-part series will be produced by Bad Wolf. Previously, a film of the first volume of the series was released in 2007 starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Dakota Blue Richards. No air date has been announced.

Matt Smith Regenerates

The BBC has announced that Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who during this year’s Christmas Special, shortly after appearing in the 50th anniversary episode in November. Rumors over a possible Smith departure have been rife for some time. Smith took over the role from David Tenant in 2010 and has appeared alongside companions played by Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams), Alex Kingston (River Song), James Corden (Craig), and Jenna-Louise Coleman (Clara Oswin Oswald). Smith’s replacement has not yet been announced.

Where No Doctor Has Gone Before…

The BBC has officially announced that the two-part opener for the next season of Doctor Who will film in Utah. This marks the first time Doctor Who has ever filmed in the United States (the Eight Doctor movie set in San Francisco was filmed in Canada). Matt Smith, Karen Gillian, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston are expected to film in Utah in November.
