Author Bud Webster (b.Clarence Howard “Bud” Webster, 1952) died on February 13. Webster wrote the Bubba Pritchert series, but may be better known as an sf historian, having written numerous columns about science fiction authors and book collecting. His non-fiction has been collected in PastMasters and Anthopology 101. Webster managed SFWA’s Estate Project since 2007, trying to build a comprehensive database of the estates and rights holders for authors. In 2012, he received the Kevin O’Donnell, Jr. Service to SFWA Award.
Author Bud Webster, who entered hospice care in December, has established a medical fund to help cover the mounting costs of his treatment. Marscon has established the fund to help Webster, who non-fiction has helped chronicle science fiction. In addition to his fiction and non-fiction, Webster has built the Author Estate project to help publishers and editors find the rights holders for various works.

Bud Webster has been announced as the recipient of this year’s Service to SFWA Award for his work on the SFWA Estates Project to determine ownership and representation of the estates of authors. Webster has also used the project to promote proper estate planning among authors. The presentations will be made during the Nebula Awards weekend in Arlington, Virginia the weekend of May 17-20.
