Don Hodge Memorial Scholarship Fund

Five scholarships have been funded for the Don Hodge Memorial Scholarship Fund for participants in the Superstars Writing Seminar to be held from February 4-6, 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO. Authors who will teaching at the seminar include Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, David Farland, Eric flint, James A. Owen, Jody Lynn Nye, and Jim Butcher, as well as editor Anne Sowards. The deadline for applying for the scholarships is October 31.

Dark Knight Rises Massacre

A 24-year-old, identified as James Holmes, entered a Chinese Mann movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado shortly after the start of a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises began, released a gas canister, and began shooting at the crowd. The man was wearing a bulletproof vest and gas mask and was armed with multiple weapons. At least twelve people were killed and fifty injured. The man was arrested shortly after 12:30 AM. Warner Brothers has announced the cancellation of a red-carpet premiere scheduled for Paris, France this evening.

Van Pelt Wins Book Award

James Van Pelt has won the Colorado Book Award for Genre Fiction (Mystery/Thriller & Science Fiction/Fantasy) for his collection The Radio Magician and Other Stories. The awards were presented by the Colorado Humanities and Center for the Book on June 25 at the Doerr-Hosier Center in Aspen. The awards, which are given in thirteen categories, recognize outstanding contributions by Colorado authors.
