Elizabeth Anne Hull has announced that a memorial service for Frederik Pohl will be held at Harper Rainey College on August 2, 2014. Frederik Pohl, who worked as an author, agent, and editor in his long career, died on September 2, 2013. In addition to publishing the award winning novels Gateway and Man Plus, Pohl edited the magazines If and Galaxy and the anthology series Star Science Fiction.
A signing of the Frederik Pohl tribute anthology, Gateways is scheduled to be held at Women and Children First bookstore at 5233 N. Clark Street in Chicago on October 10 from 4:30-6:30. Editor Elizabeth Anne Hull and authors Phyllis Eisenstein and Jody Lynn Nye are expected to attend. In addition to signing copies of the books, they are expecting to read from the appreciations of Pohl that are found in the book.
Author Frederik Pohl has received an honorary degree from Brooklyn Technical High School on August 19. Pohl attended the school for three years, but left before graduating due to his grades and problems stemming from his parents’ divorce. Brooklyn Tech alum recently discovered Pohl’s tie to the school through the dedication to Pohl and Arthur C. Clarke’s novel The Last Theorem and set into motion the school’s decision to grant Pohl his diploma.
